When God calls, He equips

“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”   Philippians 2:13

Why are we not simply taken to Heaven as soon as we accept Christ as our Saviour?  Wouldn’t that be better?  We wouldn’t have to deal with the temptation of sin anymore.  We would be in the presence our of Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and God the Father.  Well, this verse gives us an answer.

There is work for us to do.  Not working for our salvation, there is nothing we can ever do that would “earn” our ticket to heaven.  God has plans for our lives, and those plans include living out our salvation as an example to others.  It includes being His eyes, and mouth, hands and feet here where we live.  There are so many people that don’t know Christ, who have no hope, no joy.  Our hope and our joy come from knowing Christ.

We can do anything He asks of us with confidence, because He never asks us to do something He hasn’t equipped us to do.  Has He called you to teach?  He’ll give you the gift of teaching.  Has He called you to be someone’s care giver?  He’ll give you the gift of service.

Here’s another verse that shows the same thing:

Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do His will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory forever and ever.  Amen.                                                                           Hebrews 13:20-21

He’ll cause us to grow to full development, equipping us to answer His call.  He is, after all, the author and finisher of our faith.  All we have to do is say with Isaiah, Here I am, LORD, send me.
