As I said in my last post, I am doing this amazing study on the History of Redemption. Well, one requirement is to read the book by Henrietta C. Mears, “What the Bible is all About”. I have used this book many, many times but never have I read it cover to cover. I am finding this jewel to be as amazing, no, more amazing, when read straight through.
I have just been reading about the Passover. I had completely forgotten how beautiful the writing on this was. Let me just give you the basics. But I urge you to find this book and read it.
Let’s look over the elements of the Passover as she describes them.
1. Take a lamb…the Living Lamb is Jesus. It was not the spotlessness of His life that saves us, it was His death on the cross.
2. Sprinkle the blood…the blood was sufficient by not efficient unless applied. And note that the blood was to be applied over the door, not under it. We must apply it in each of our lives. And one more amazing thing she points out is that they were to use a hyssop. This was a very common weed – everyone could find it. This shows that everyone can come to God in faith through Christ. And the blood couldn’t be left in a basin, it had to be applied. The gift of salvation is free to all, but we have to accept it.
3. Eat the lamb…First salvation, then feeding. We need to eat, breath and live the Word of God. We are not to “forsake the gathering together” of each of us. We are strenghtened when we gather together and share, worship and pray.
4. Remove the leaven…Leaven stands for our sins. One of my favorite Psalms, Ps. 139, says, Search me oh Lord… see if there be any wicked way in me.
5. Bitter herbs…Christ tasted bitter herbs for us. They were to eat the lamb, not raw, but passed through the fire. It was to be eaten in haste. We have no time to play games with God. Time is running out quickly.
6. Be ready to leave… They ate standing up, with their items packed and ready to go. Oh, what a joyful thought! I am not only ready, but oh so eager to leave this world behind and see the blessed face of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. As the Bible ends, so is my plea, “Even so Lord Jesus come.”
Are you ready? Are you longing for the day that we are raised to forever live in God’s presence?
Exodus 13:8 says, “When I came fourth out of Egypt..” Remember Egypt represents the world. I will end this with the words penned by Mrs. Mears, When did you come out of Egypt?
Don’t wait, my friends, don’t wait. Think about it.
Isn’t it amazing how back in the day almost everything was done with no sense of urgency?
Oh how now we have become the now generation… we have to have our coffee now… that item we bought on the internet now…. our fast food now… but our salvation; well we want to wait until later for that.
We have sought after the wrong things… we have put the rush on the wrong order…
Thank you my dear sister for bringing this Word at this time.
